Dzniel Shuttersworth - Storyteller Sunday

Good morning, good people. This Sunday for this installment of STS we feature another member of Datstaken, Dzniel. Here is a piece of his story.

Growing up in this generation, there are certain things that are expected of us from our parents. From young we are bred to think that a college degree and a 9-5 career are the way to be successful in the country. And for Dzniel, life began in much of the same fashion. "I did the school thing.... you know, listening to everyone else and trying to gain the approval of my parents", he explained. Something we all seek in life is that moment to make those who raised us proud. But I think often times we loose sight of the reality. The path you take is a lot less important as long as the result is the same.

"It wasn't a waste, it just wasn't for me. Not at that time anyway". A sign of understanding as Dzniel explains his career path. "After graduating college, I went straight into my masters program", a path that most take. Schooling and education are currently seen as the only paths (outside of selling rock or a wicked jump shot) to success but we hope to help change that perception. "It took me until half way through my masters and 2 years of constant rejection from one job application to the next to realize that maybe I'm here for more than where I saw myself headed". The goal of sharing this story isn't to tell anyone to dropout and do what they want but hopefully to shed light on other paths. I mean, that's what Storyteller was created for. To show the world that we aren't alone in this journey that we call life. Seeing someone express and share feelings that you too feel every morning you look in the mirror helps ease the anxiety and pressure that comes with it.
