Quick Trip to Va Beach
What are you chasing in life? This is a question that has been on my mind pretty frequently as of late. For some of us, it’s money, whether for what you can do with money or for what money can do for you. With others, the pursuit is in establishing a legacy or simply a career and life to be proud of when it’s all over. But really, have you ever asked yourself? Why do you do what you do day to day? What’s driving you? The more I thought about that simple question, the deeper down the rabbit hole I went.
In moments of deep reflection like this one, my usual response is to shrink myself in an attempt to put my focus on problem-solving. When the weekend approached, I had already planned to do nothing but sit in the house. Luckily for me, there was another plan. This time I was blessed with a little gift from the universe, a much-needed, spontaneous escape for the day.
For those who were unaware, I did a brief stint at ODU in Virginia Beach for a few years after High School. I enjoyed myself down in Norfolk so much that I didn’t last long but I always loved the energy in the 757. I find myself on 64, en route to Va Beach at least once a year, and every time, I’m so glad I did. I needed the crashing waves, the drive, and the energy of the area to rejuvenate me a bit.
If you’ve ever taken a drive when there are few cars on the road, you also have an appreciation and understanding of just how peaceful the drive is. Passing through a canopy of trees past Williamsburg, to open highway once you pass Richmond makes for a smooth ride all the way home. We laughed, we smoked, we ate the perfect dinner, and the music while there and on the ride back was curated to perfection. The quick trip was exactly what I needed heading into a new week.
I’m so grateful for the people around me for also being fueled by a bit of adventure and exploration, feeding that spirit of wanderlust that burns so deeply in our souls.
