Ingredients for Life

International Market DC

With the weather getting warmer (or fluctuating at least), it seems that the clear air of creativity has return. Many creatives have voiced their dealings with the clouded space of uninspired thoughts throughout this winter but we all seem to be emerging at once. Self-care, especially as a creative, is very important. Finding, what I refer to as the 'ingredients for life', is a step towards ensuring our moods and energies continuously emit higher frequencies.

Outside of eating foods that sustain our energy, rather than drain it, throughout the day, we must also be wary of how our words & what we see visually will either sustain or drain our energies. It was seen as just a phrase for a lot of people but the metaphor of looking at a partially filled glass cup as half-full rather than empty, actually is a form of shifting your perspective. How we think affects how we act; meaning that if you have a tendency of thinking negatively, then your actions will largely appear negative. The opposite is also true and positivity is also just as infectious as negativity. It is through a positive mind, the ability to see every bump as a lesson and every 'No' as another opportunity to get a 'Yes', is a mentality that pushes through any obstacle to succeed. It is this that makes one wealthy, both figuratively and literally. It is this that allows one to take the next step and pursue peace.

Its always funny to me when people refer to the peaceful in sarcastic manner, almost as if the thing that makes them so, is some unobtainable milestone. Understanding peace is to understand that we as humans are not meant to control our every situation. This is a concept that is most times hard to remember in the moment. We all have personal goals that we wish to accomplish and this process often causes stress. But mastering peace is about reliquishing that desire to control our situations and allowing the spirit of the universe to guide our moves. It may seem trivial and impractical to "allow the chips to fall where they may" but coming to peace will also free our minds to be more efficient. Just as in our bodies, the less time our minds have to spend breaking down bullshit, the more time they can focus on the tasks we seek to accomplish. Taking a step back, to visualize the steps forward is what separates the good from the great. It is this that we must keep in minds as creatives, and as humans in general. Life is not had, we just make it that way.

And trust me, I am far from accomplishing either. I still struggle with both concepts but being aware, is the first step to progress.
