Legs & Latte's -IChing
It was recenty brought to my attention (by a connoisseur of sorts) that the term "legs" is also used in reference to fine wines, so it made perfect sense to feature a slightly different atmosphere for this installment of the series. It's still the same general concept with an obviously different product and don't worry, for all you hipster coffee lovers, I will still continue to feature coffee and tea shops as well.
This week I met Melissa at IChing on U St NW and had a few laughs while overlooking the rest of the strip from the rooftop, a very pleasant way to prepare for a night in the city. She was hungry, so she also ordered food and I must say, from the wine selection, to plate presentation, to portion size, IChing is worth the money. The shrimp tasted fresh and was fried perfectly (not too crisp), the noodles were appetizing and they had some very tasty sauce as well, which is always the perfect complement to top off the food. The wine was a good decision as well; a very sweet aromatic smell, dark & rich red color and a taste that would make you request the full bottle (which we might have if it wasn't for the Ching Bombs being spotted on the menu). The manager Joe was as friendly and welcoming as he was fun. When the Ching Bombs (specialized Sake Bombs) came out, he walked us through the IChing ritual in the form of what was reminiscent of a blackjack game in Vegas. First you chant and then you slam and if you beat the bartender (in our case, the GM), then your order is 50% off, a challenge you just can't run away from. Overall, the experience was great. I would most definitely suggest you stopping by IChing the next time you're on U St (it's located across the street from Howard Theatre and right next door to Flash).
