#NoBraClub Campaign Part 1

If you aren’t familiar with The No Bra Club, an Australian lifestyle brand, then you probably haven’t seen the internet movement celebrating women and their bodies that they stood at the forefront of. They have long been pushing the idea to desexualize female nipples, one of the many the unfair double standards between the male and female species. In witnessing this movement over the past few years and being in agreeance of the destruction of policing female bodiesbut not only female bodies but the separation in conversation between black female nudity versus the more palettable nude imagery of women with fairer skin.

So I gathered some friends, they dropped their tops and we shot in some random public places. First up, is Muka. Being that Muka is a model and her aesthetic of creating shape with her body, it made sense to capture her in an art museum.

Between the start of this campaign and the BARE Collection taking place, I find myself locked into the social stance of standing behind the sexual and anatomical freedom of female bodies in general and black female bodies in specific. As a man, it’s hard to fathom not having the freedom to walk around with my shirt off or to have to wear something restricting underneath of my shirt because the perception of my nipples is offensive to others. I can’t imagine needing to cover up because my body triggers others to feel the need to touch or grab onto me without my permission. I understand that this is a conversation that has been had for generations but the saying of absolute power corrupting absolutely, stands out in these moments. By accepting rules and social constructs without questioning their logic is a troubling place to exist in society and I’m just glad that in the year 2019, we are finally awake enough to at least begin the conversation.

Stay tuned for more from this campaign as well as me attacking more conversations in my art.
