The Art & Tradition of Storytelling
Centuries ago our ancestors would gather around in groups and create parallels between fiction and reality. This process was a way of passing down lessons from elders to youth and also helped to develop creative ways to entertain the masses. As time passed, the art of storytelling evolved and we began using different tools to capture the soul of a moment.
I am always in constant search of new and creative ways to tell the stories that are reflected around me. The challenge to be observant, use your imagination and deliver an idea that people are drawn to is an uphill battle that content creators constantly stress over. But the art of storytelling is such an intricate science that the successful have learned to master.
If you look at the former profession that the Mad Men of Madison Ave strategically crafted, the art behind the advertising machine is rooted in storytelling. Taking a brand's story, understanding how to communicate their mission with an audience is where great advertising excels. What's unfortunate is that the general public started to equate advertising with lying, similar to an over-eager Used Car Salesman. The reality lies somewhere in the middle. Telling a story, no matter who it is delivered by is in its essence, an amplification.
