Costa Rica: Troubles in Paradise?
I'm sure most people reading this headline are wondering what can be wrong when you are afforded the opportunity to travel to countries foreign to your own and take photos? That would be the definition of a First World Problem, right? Therefore I will start this post by saying how amazing Costa Rica was to visit. Out of all the places I have visited, Costa Rica is truly at the top. From the people, to the culture (which I will address in another post), Costa Rica checks off so many boxes in the ‘dream living’ checklist. But first, let’s get into this trip as a whole being a first time experience for myself & Jaz.
In the past, our travel experiences have revolved around the two of us diving deep and finding the most local adventures possible in each location we visit. Along the way we speak to people and as a shooter, I naturally take photos of them but the travel is a lot more strictly conformed to a schedule that we follow along the way. With the exception of Cuba, this is how we have successfully taken in the culture of the countries we have visited.
With this trip our goal was a bit different; capture content stragically to engage with larger audience groups on the back-end, and as much content as we actually got (shoutout to Cam), it didn’t quite go according to plan. Most who know me know that I am a go-with the flow type guy and most that know Jaz know that she is a by-the schedule type woman, so seemingly the result would be a disaster. But just like in life, we became the balance for each other. The problem came in adding additional people in on the trip and being that we had never done it before, it posed as a challenge with upholding expectations while staying on schedule and also gathering the content intended.
This trip posed itself with a lot of lessons both in traveling with a group and in gathering mass content. Lesson 1 : Be ready to ride the wave and adapt in the midst. Lesson 1.5 : Content never stops no matter how unplanned things get. Lesson 2 : Always keep a schedule keeper in the crew. When things start getting loose, you need to be reeled in. Lesson 3 : Involve the group in as much content as possible. Getting them engaged with keep the understanding of the main point as an underlying goal. And Lesson 4 : Plan for FUN and be prepared to exaggerate it at times too.
Stay tuned for more Costa Rica content as I will be unloading daily for the next week or so.
